I intended to call it a day at one post. However, so much awesomeness happened that I wanted to write a second post.
I went on my first cold-weather run today. I figured it might be easier than it looked, after all, I saw this awesome chica who had run with icicles on her eyelashes, how hard could it be?
I was unpleasantly surprised when I went out to the park to run. It was a balmy 19 degrees outside, and I wore four layers. It was around 3:45 and it was starting to get a little darker. I was worried I would not have enough time to run. Plus, my Garmin had only been charging for about 15 minutes and it was yelling at me that it had low battery. Apparently they do not come pre-charged like cell phones do. I ran about 0.9 miles, until my Garmin almost died. So did I, I had forgotten a hat so my ears were starting to turn blue from exposure. I had trouble breathing afterward and couldn't speak, and my chest literally felt like it would explode from pressure. I even broke a little bit of a sweat in the cold. Was it totally miserable at times? You bet. Do I prefer 70 degree, sunny weather? Of course. Am I going to go out there tomorrow and go do it again? Heck yes I will. :-) There is something about being a runner that will get you do to all kinds of ridiculous stuff, and enjoy it! :-)
I have been relaxing at home ever since then. My parents are out of town, which means peace, quiet, and no drama. It is always awesome when they go out of town, since the pressure is off me and I can do things on my own terms without them hounding me or being rude, or just being in the way in general. Tonight I cooked some quinoa with veggie stock, several different types of spices, corn, and broccoli florets. I am going to use the rest of the broccoli tomorrow to make a hummus and broccoli wrap (using gluten-free spinach tortillas) and maybe for a soup later if I'm lucky. :-) I will also make a few smoothies and chia seed pudding. :-) Like I said, when the pressure's off, ish gets done.
Tomorrow is Christmas Day and I will be spending it alone happily. I may try to make some cookies later if I can find a nice easy recipe that does not require me to make a grocery store run (stores are closed anyway). I will look for some vegan, gluten-free cookie recipes.
I hope everyone has a fantastic and Merry Christmas! I will sleep in and enjoy the quiet. Happy Birthday to Jesus!!
